Who we are

Our goal is to support parents transmitting their heritage language. We want to equip parents with the knowledge and confidence to foster language development.

Miniglotte started — during my parental leave. Languages have always been an integral part of my life from an early age. First Ewe, one of the languages spoken in Togo; followed French, as was my second language, and then German.

When seeking resources for my daughter's multilingual upbringing, I found myself by the information and lacking suitable resources for our family's needs.

As both a teacher and a speech therapist, I understand the numerous advantages of multilingual parenting. However, the challenge can be daunting, especially with other parental priorities. Miniglotte supports families in maintaining language goals and transmitting their heritage language sustainably and enjoyably.

I was born in Germany, part of a generation shaped by immigration. My grandfathers came as guest workers, a label that obscured their humanity. Growing up multilingualism and cultural sensitivity resonated deeply with me.

Even during my studies, I knew I wanted to focus on supporting multilingual families and enhancing the use of minority languages within them. Being multilingual myself in a predominantly monolingual society, I recognized early on the immense value and numerous advantages of multilingualism. Now, as a speech therapist fluent in multiple languages, I realize even more the significance of promoting minority languages and advocating for multilingual education. It's crucial for empowering and enriching the lives of diverse individuals in our society.
